AHS PREMIUM PERFORMANCE SCHEME 2013

Anne Brown reports on another eventful year for the AHS Premium Performance Scheme
The Scheme has welcomed three new stallions, Premium progeny has topped the BEF Futurity rankings, ridden progeny leads the Endurance tables and Premium progeny continue to succeed in eventing and showing, proving the worth of Premium blood.

Our two new roller banners, each featuring four AHS Premium horses, attracted visitors to our tent at the AHS Championship Show at Malvern, and our Premium Performance stand at the World Crabbet Convention in July and also at Endurance Rides round the country this summer. WELCOME TO THREE NEW STALLIONS
We are delighted to welcome the exceptional endurance winner and sire, Czarus, to the Premium stallion list. Owner Sue Rich (organiser of the AHS Marathon) imported pure Arab Czarus from Poland as a youngster.

His most outstanding offspring include FEI** endurance horses, all bearing the Oakleaze Farm prefix - Czarko, Cziko, Czelo, Czamak and Czaro, All have been members of Team GB in European or World championships.

An exciting addition to the Scheme’s performance-tested part-bred Arabs is Yawl Hillbilly, who successfully completed the tough two-day NaStA test in August.

His achievements in endurance, eventing and BSJA jumping have earned him a NaStA Elite status. Owned and bred by Kirsty Wiscombe, he stands at stud in Dorset.

CERTIFICATES FOR PREMIUM MARES & STALLIONS
The AHS has issued Premium certificates to all known current Premium stallions and mares. If you believe you have a Premium mare and have not received a certificate, please email tarantella@btinternet.com.

PREMIUM MARES
Owners of Premium mares who plan to breed from them in 2014 should check the list of versatile AHS Premium stallions. The AHS gives Premiums on registration of the resulting foals in 2015.

So, do you want to gain Premium status for your mare?

Qualifications include: competing a 50-mile ride; gaining at least five British Dressage points; winning or being placed in affiliated show jumping; eventing; or racing.

Alternatively, if your mare has at least two offspring, who have achieved this level in ridden competition, she will qualify. It’s free and you have everything to gain. Premium progeny are eligible for many awards, trophies and rosettes.
CALENDARS
We have again produced a Premium Performance calendar featuring many of our ridden Arabian stars, which will be ideal for Christmas presents.

They cost £5 each, including p&p, from the AHS online shop or from the AHS at Agriculture House.
NATIONAL STALLION ASSOCIATION PERFORMANCE TEST
It was a pleasure to watch this year’s two-day NaStA test in August, when part Arab Yawl Hillbilly showed just how it should be done and gained a NaStA Elite. Participating stallions are trained to a set of standards during the spring/summer and, after submitting qualification certificates, come forward in August for final testing over two days. The testing includes Dressage, Show- and Free-Jumping, Cross Country Jumping and a Paces test, as well as a Judge's Ridden Assessment, vet inspection, and assessment by two AHS judges.

If you have a stallion which could qualify for Grading and an AHS Premium (based on the NaStA grading), apply in 2014.

BRITISH EQUESTRIAN FEDERATION FUTURITY 2013
Premium progeny are again at the top of the endurance section of the 2013 BEF Futurity Evaluations (www.britishbreeding.org), which take place around the country for youngsters up to three year olds.

We congratulate the following progeny of AHS Premium stallions: Samba B by Sambist, a top yearling who earned a coveted Higher First Premium. Three other youngsters: yearling Yawl Hill Big Yin by latest Premium stallion Yawl Hillbilly, foal Scirrocco by Marcus Aurelius, and 3-year old Raphael by Wrzos all earned First Premiums.

Use it or lose it – unless breeders support the BEF evaluations by bringing their young Endurance horses to the gradings, the BEF may withdraw the section. Their current rules already restrict entry to youngsters by “Graded” stallions, out of “Graded” mares, which of course don’t exist in the endurance world (as they do in the other three BEF disciplines: dressage, show jumping and eventing). The Premium Scheme encourages genetic diversity, and at present, the BEF accepts the progeny of AHS Premium stallions.
PREMIUM HORSES AT WORLD CRABBET CONVENTION
AHS Premium progeny were out in force at the World Crabbet Convention in July including the full brothers Ikoni, Silvern Prince and Binley Prince Salim – three top ridden stallions by AHS Premium stallion Prince Sadik.

AHS Premium stallion Marcus Aurelius (by Premium stallion Aurelian) and his progeny were a hit at the Addington Manor venue. Marcus has been competing at 80kms in endurance this year and had various wins and places unaffiliated show jumping with owner Rowena Bertram’s14-year old daughter, Katherine.
LEADING PREMIUM RACING SIRE & PROGENY
Premium stallion Sambist has regained his Leading Racing Sire status through the success of his son LB Armanii. The 5-year old gelding won his maiden race in great style at Hereford, to earn the Leading Premium Racing Progeny title for 2013.

ROMARNIC STUD
Romarnic Stud's Anglo and part-bred progeny have had many sucesses, showing the value of the infusion of Arab blood into performance horses. Owner Nicky Killerby reports:

Premium stallion Romarnic Ranger's colt foal Calzini Illustre had a Higher First Premium at the BEF Evaluations in the Dressage section in 2013.

Whittakers Prince, who was the Champion riding pony at HOYS, is out of the AHS Premium mare Unique, who was by the AHS Premium stallion Fairlyn Gemini x AHS Premium mare Seaholm Scintilla. She is also the dam of Whittakers Prince, who was the Champion riding horse and Supreme ridden champion at HOYS in 2012. He is the horse on the Derby House adverts. Not bad for a little AA mare!

Our deceased AHS Premium stallion Fairlyn Gemini was also the sire of Fairlyn Finese, the dam of the horse, which was 2nd in the Cuddy final.

One of Romarnic Ranger's AHS Premium daughters Romarnic Reverie, out of the Premium AA mare, Brox Lady Arabella, qualified for the British Young Event horse championships - not an easy feat for a 4-year old mare. Ranger also has a 5-year old mare Bullard, who is on the British Armed Forces show jumping team.

Romarnic's 2011 filly, Cossack Cartier, by Romarnic Ranger, has had numerous Sport Horse class wins and Championships at county level in the last two years and gained a Higher First Premium at the BEF Futurity as a foal.
